Welcome

I'm so glad you found yourself here.

I hope this is a place that we can laugh, cry, share, have fun, and grow together. I figured a good way to kick off this blog would be to tell you a little bit about who I am and what lead me to start it.

Starting a blog is something I’ve always entertained in the back of my mind, but for some reason it never felt like the right time. To be honest, I struggled a bit with the idea of adding “another blog” to what can sometimes feel like a really oversaturated space. What more is there for me to share or contribute to this whole internet/social media/blogging world?

At the end of the day, I credit the starting of this blog to the still, small Voice nudging me to set those things aside, see it as something to be enjoyed for myself (and whoever chooses to hang out here with me), and just go for it. So here we are!

So, if you don’t know me already, here’s a little bit about who I am:

  • I’m a 29 year old small town Texas-native, now living in Sacramento, California with my husband, Michael, and our tiny girl gang: Lennon Elisabeth (3), Georgie Wynn (1.5) and James Ruthie (3 months). (The most typical response we get when sharing our girls’ ages is, "they’re HOW close in age?! You’ve got your hands full! You must be so busy!” — the answer is yes, we’ve got our hands full and yes, we are busy, but it’s the good, rich, wonderful (and yes, at times very chaotic) kind of busy and we wouldn't have it any other way.)

  • Michael and I met at Baylor University in Waco, TX (Fixer Upper, anyone?), got married, and moved to Austin, TX right after we graduated. We were there for three years, within which we got a cat, a dog, had our first baby, held multiple jobs, ate LOTS of good food, were a part of a church that was incredibly transformational for our faith/so hard to say goodbye to…it was a full, rich season. Ultimately, it felt like our time in Austin was coming to an end and time to step into something new.

  • We moved to Sacramento in 2018, right after Lennon was born, not knowing a soul. Adjusting to a new city, a new gig as a stay at home mom, a new job for Michael, was… a lot, to say the least. As we near the end of our time here (we’ll be moving at the end of July), I can genuinely say that I am more grateful for our season in Sacramento than any other season of life thus far. It has been pivotal in more ways than one, and for that we're so grateful (more on this down the road, friends!).

So, why is this blog called “Summers in the City”?

The Summers party of five will be packing up and heading east to New York City this summer! Michael will be starting law school at NYU this fall, so we’ll be making the coast - to - coast trek (yes, with three little ones - start praying for us now, please) and calling the Upper West Side home.

We genuinely couldn’t be more excited for the adventure, and can’t wait to settle into life in Manhattan as a family. As the prompting to start this blog lingered, I thought to myself, what better time than now to start a blog? A place to keep track of our adventures in the city. An online journal of sorts, to be able to document the details of it all. A place to share and write and process as we go. Yes!

I’m can’t wait to see what this space has in store - like I said above, I hope it’s a place that we can connect, share, and grow together. And again, I couldn’t be happier that you’re here.
