It’s Been a Minute

Hi friends! It’s been a minute. We are coming to the end of what has been a bit of a chaotic few weeks — we’ve all been sick more than once (flu and stomach bug - yikes), Michael went through the spring semester finals grind which is a grind for all of us, our friends at Apartment Therapy came to shoot at our apartment for some really fun upcoming projects (busy, but so much fun - can’t wait to share with you guys!), amongst other things. We’ve had next to no routine and it’s been wearing on all of us a bit. Michael started his internship in Brooklyn last week and it’s bringing some healthy routine back into our lives - praises for that!

I’ve been in a rut lately — uninspired and feeling cooped up. We haven't left the city since we moved here and I'm majorly craving a day trip somewhere upstate. It's been fun and inspiring to research that a bit! I also got a new camera recently that I’ve been having so much fun with. Looking for inspiration in the little things. :)

The girls and I have been making an effort to get outside first thing in the mornings this week which has been so good for all of us. I have been missing having a backyard something fierce lately, so making the effort to do this has been really good for my moral. I feel like I’m always refiguring out the best way to get out the door and get around the city with the girls based on everyone’s age, how far we’re going, the weather, etc. Not being able to wear James in the carrier for very long anymore has caused a bit shift in the best way to get around — the single stroller is great for short outings, but if we’re going somewhere far and take the subway then the double is better, but then it’s tougher to get down the stairs with the stroller if we're going to a station with no elevator, etc…you get the idea. Logistics! Ah!)

We went to run some simple errands yesterday in a really fun part of the Upper West Side. We stopped for coffee and muffins at Daily Provisions and then popped into a toy store nearby on a whim - I somehow got talked into three new bouncy balls which resulted in the afternoon being spent learning to dribble and shoot hoops in my bike basket that’s currently not on my bike. :) At least it’s being put to good use for now!

Our oven is broken so we’re stuck using the stovetop at least for a couple of weeks - a bit of a challenge coming up with stovetop only recipes for every meal, and I think I’m more bummed than the girls are that we can’t bake our weekly batch of brownies. They’ll taste even better when it’s fixed, I suppose! The girls and I love to bake together so be prepared for lots of baking content when that time comes. You’ve been warned.

happy stuff:

  • lemon blueberry muffins from Daily Provisions (want to make some at home now!).

  • the sun catchers the girls made with with new friends hanging in their windows (photo below — makes me smile every time I look at it).

  • this HTH bedding — recently put it in the girls’ room! the happiest color and the gingham adds so much joy.

  • this carnitas recipe.

  • these H&M overalls.

  • this reflection from Ruth Chou Simons.

wishing you all a lovely and blessed weekend. xx
