Making a (Tiny) Home

No doubt about it - living in such a small space as a family of five has presented its challenges. Some days it feels tight, some days I feel trapped, some days I just about lose my mind when I open the tiny cabinet above the sink where we attempt to store all our dry goods and something falls out and hits me in the head because it all *just barely* fits.

But honestly, we love it. We love the sense of closeness and community it provides for our  family. We appreciate the intentionality and thoughtfulness it requires to fill this tiny home with things we need and love and feel like us. It has challenged us to fill our home with love, not things - and to choose those things thoughtfully and wisely.

My favorite room in the apartment by one million miles is the girls’ room. The view of the park, the natural light that streams in all morning long. It’s cozy and sweet and joy-filled. Nothing makes me happier than hearing the three of them in their room, laughing and reading and playing the day away. I like to sneak in there myself most mornings to enjoy the sunlight and a cup of coffee.

One of our favorite things to do together is read books. These girls love to read and I hope and pray that love never leaves them! It inspires me to read more, to take the time to cozy up with a good book and get lost in its pages. Their room has a little ledge under the corner window that we all perch upon from time to time - to sit and read, to look out at the trees and wave as passersby. When our Arthur + Lucca pillows arrived, I knew that this favorite little nook of ours was finally complete. The floor pillow doubles as both a cushion for the beloved perch as well as a cozy place to lay down and read books together (and sometimes take a nap). Sometimes it’s a pirate ship, sometimes its a bed for their baby dolls. It’s always a cozy place to land - to read, to rest, do be together in this tiny space we call home.
