Untitled (because my brain is tired and i can't think of one)
hey! it's me. coming up for air to pop in and say hi. we've been living in the city for about a month now, Michael has officially started school, and we are starting to catch glimpses of what our weekly rhythms might look like, which is a welcomed sight after months of floating. we've done a lot of apartment organizing, a lot of walking, a lot of sweating (thank you, New York humidity), a lot of schlepping up and down stairs with all our paraphernalia behind our not-so-speedy toddlers (which has lead to a lot more sweating). we've been offered help with our stroller in the subway station more times than we can count (contrary to popular belief, New Yorkers have been lovely and so kind) and appreciate it every time. we've been looked at like we're crazy people for living in the city with kids and most people assume lennon and georgie must be twins because we already have another baby, ha. we've been given unsolicited parenting advice and also lots of encouragement and kind gestures as we've stumbled our way through various places around the city. we've been figuring out the most efficient ways to do our grocery shopping, scoping out which neighborhood playgrounds are best, gotten locked out of our apartment, learned that you can't rely on subway station elevators being in service, met some neighbors, figured out where to buy diapers nearby when we realize a little too late that we've run out. we've stocked up on rain gear for all of us (we missed rainstorms so much in california!) and are on the edge of our seats when it comes to waiting for fall in the city. we've honestly felt refreshed being in a small space and also very thankful for the respite of the park being across the street when our 600 sq ft of space feels more like 60. all in all, we love it here and are having so much fun. there's something so energizing about being here, which I know I'm not the first to say about NYC, and what a treat it is to see the city through our girls' eyes. we're excited for rhythms to form, relationships to flourish, and a sense of home to continue to grow.
also, the bagels here are really, really good.
our apartment is starting to take shape, and we really like her. a tour will come as soon as we get it all finished, but it's coming along and the end is (somewhat) in sight! I also have plans to update the blog a bit - adding things to my shop page that i've found as we've been settling in, linking my favorite apartment finds, etc. - and working on my amazon shop page (which I'm sharing before it's "done" because I honestly don't have time to "finish" it, ha). I'll add to it periodically when I can/as I find more things I like and that I think you might like too. :)
I'll wrap this one up with a quote that we came across at the perfect moment while at the church we've been going to here. the timing was definitely not by accident and was exactly what I needed to hear at the time - carrying it with me as we continue to walk in this new season.
